Microsoft Gives An Official Launch Date for Most Expected Windows 7

Microsoft on Tuesday confirmed that customers will be able to buy Windows 7 from retailers and preinstalled on new PCs on Oct. 22. Yes, that’s right: After months and months of sticking to the “late 2009 or early 2010″ time frame, Microsoft has finally inscribed a Windows 7 launch date in the annals of history.

Oct. 22 will also forever be remembered as the beginning of the healing process for Microsoft and its customers, both of which are still scratching their heads over what happened with Windows Vista.

Microsoft says it’s on track to release Windows 7 to manufacturing in late July, which means PC makers will have plenty of time to load it onto new machines in time for the most economically crucial holiday season in years. In light of the beating Microsoft has taken in its last few fiscal quarters, and recent declines in Windows market share that have been attributed to the Vista debacle, a solid showing by Windows 7 would go a long way toward silencing critics.

Windows 7, currently in Release Candidate stage, looks plenty capable of banishing Vista’s by-now well-known performance and compatibility demons. And Microsoft will need that to happen to solidify its grip on the netbook market and convince customers to pay more for Windows 7 on netbooks than they’ve been paying for XP.

Fortunately for Microsoft, customers and companies that have been avoiding Vista by remaining in a Windows XP holding pattern will have plenty of motivation to migrate to Windows 7. For example, the virtualization features Microsoft has built into Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 represent a glittering lure for cost-conscious companies; and Windows 7’s improved deployment and management tools can quickly add up to measurable cost savings.

Of course, Microsoft will be launching Windows 7 into the teeth of one of the worst economic downturns in decades, so its commercial success will be anything but a slam dunk. Regardless of how good Windows 7 turns out to be, some companies may decide to hold off on upgrading simply because XP does what they need it to do.

Microsoft is very enthusiastic about their launch of Windows 7 before the its rivals, Google’s Chrome O/S, which is planned their own launch by the second half of next year which is an open source, lightweight operating system that will initially be targeted at netbooks. Google Chrome OS will be available for consumers in the second half of 2010.

Microsoft has acknowledged that it waited too long to release a follow-up to XP, and it’s enlisting the aid of solution providers to drum up interest in Windows 7 among small businesses that are perfectly happy running their day-to-day operations on XP.

Microsoft is working on many fronts to convey the implicit message that Windows 7 will succeed where Vista didn’t, and on Oct. 22, the market will begin making their own assessment — the only one that matters.

As a socially responsible company, hSenid Software International we initiated a recycling campaign internally to our staff to collect all the both side used papers to recycling purposes last month , and this was the achievement we got from a single floor, with 80 employees working,

Airtel Sri Lanka to Bid for Tigo

Bharti Airtel plans to bid for telecom operator Tigo – Millicom Sri Lankan mobile network, the Economic Times says.

According to Economic Time, that move would make it the second largest mobile phone operator in the island nation, trebling its user base from one million now.

However a spokesman for Bharti Airtel told refuse to make comment on market speculation.

Bharti will have to compete with an array of suitors such as Malaysia’s Axiata Group, Russia’s Vimpelcom and United Arab Emirates Etisalat, which are reportedly interested in Millicom’s Asian assets.

Millicom International had put its operations across Cambodia, Laos and Sri Lanka on the block in July, the report said. Bharti Airtel Sri Lanka has already invested $125 million in Sri Lanka against a commitment of $250 million, Economic Times says.

Bharti is in exclusive talks with South Africa’s MTN aimed at a merger to create the world’s third-biggest telecoms firm.

Twitter is a place where people can use to stay in touch with each other and spread information, but now the site’s taking on the role in the marketplace.

Twitter enables you to earn big money with your 140 or less characters post on Twitter. But is it really possible?

CBS News Science and Technology Correspondent Daniel Sieberg discussed it — and ways others may try to cash in on you — on “The Early Show” Friday.

For some, Sieberg said, it’s possible to make money on Twitter. Tamar Weinberg, an Internet marketer, told Sieberg she made a couple of hundred dollars by tweeting about an e-commerce service to her 8,600 followers.

Weinberg, author of “The New Community Rules,” told CBS News, “It was a really cool product, and it was relevant to my readers, so I said, ‘Hey, why not?’”

And for celebrities, Sieberg said, Twitter money is at their fingertips.

Ted Murphy, founder and CEO of IZEA, said the biggest check he’s written so far to an unnamed celebrity is $20,000 — for one post.

And while there’s money to be made, Sieberg said, you should also beware of scams.

Entrepreneur Krhys Vaughn wanted to promote her business when she signed up with a company called Twitter Profit House for a $1.99 CD to teach her how to make money on Twitter. But the next business day, Vaughn found hidden charges on her bank statement for more than $100.

Khrys got her money back after many phone calls and e-mails and finally, a complaint filed with the Better Business Bureau.

Alison Southwick, spokesperson for the Better Business Bureau, told CBS News, “The Better Business Bureau is warning people specifically about websites that offer a free trial of a CD-Rom that is going to show you how to make money with Twitter…You want to beware of websites that claim you can make big money for little effort and no experience required.”

According to its Web site, Twitter Profit House claims it’s no longer in business. However, the Better Business Bureau warns there are other similar Web sites that charge membership fees, so, Tweeter beware.

And if you’re one of the millions of everyday Twitter users, Sieberg said you shouldn’t expect to be tapped to sell a product any time soon.

Southwick said, “I don’t think anybody’s going to be able to turn themselves into a full-time sponsored tweeter, except maybe a celebrity.”

Sieberg added some users view the money aspect of Twitter negatively. He said users say the site is turning a communication tool into a big ad machine.
